On Wednesday we went on a bike/hike/kayaking excursion. The description of the excursion said we would be transported in an airconditioned bus, okay, they have a different meaning for the word "airconditioning"! The roads around Samana are truly horrible, we got bounced and jostled around until I had to lean forward in my seat because my tailbone was bruised.

The bike ride was first. The night before we arrived Samana had a lot of rain, in fact they have a lot of rain period! The bikes we got to ride, no helmets, had no fenders on the back, so we all got covered with mud on our backs. Here is how Bob's clothes looked, he said my clothes were worse. I didn't want a photo!

While biking, we passed a marble mine. I don't really get why it is called a marble mine, when it is not below ground.

The walk was pretty uneventful, although we saw caves where the original inhabitants of this area lived when Spain discovered it.

After the walk, we got back on the bumpy truck and went to Playa Rincon, a lovely beach where we opted to skip the kayaking, sitting on one more hard surface, and just soak in the water. It was a beautiful beach.

Bob had a beer!

We were thrilled to get back to the boat on the tender. This was the only stop where we had to use tenders to get to shore.
