We spent the morning in San Juan, Puerto Rico with Viveca Venegas. We were only in the port until 1 PM, so we didn't have much time. We walked around the city near the port and then Viveca's friend, Roberto Santana picked us up in his car and we drove around and saw some sights.
On the north side of San Juan, the Spaniards built several forts that are all connected by tunnels, so if enemy ships sailed close to one fort, all the soldiers showed themselves at the top of the fort on the walkways, and then as the ships sailed around to the next fort, the soldiers would all run through the tunnels to the next fort, so the enemy ships thought there were thousands of men and turned away instead of fighting to take over the island. This is one of the forts. We didn't have time to go inside any of them.

Then we went to a nearby bar and had a drink while we sat around and talked. Roberto went to Babson while Viveca and I were at Pine Manor, and he dated Viveca, so I got to know him pretty well back then. They both live in San Juan and have remained good friends all of these years. Bob took a photo of us outside the bar.
Viveca is now a famous photographer in Puerto Rico, doing portraits and landscapes. She submitted a photograph to a National Geographic contest and out of 15,000 entries, was chosen as the winner! She won a 17 day cruise to Antarctica, in the warmest season they have. She said the temperatures got up to the 40's, so she was frozen all the time. She said it was spectacular.
Her photography website is here, the winning photograph is on the home page:
