1 PM Happy Valentine's Day!
Whoa baby. In spite of partial sunshine, the wind is blowing with incredible force - 80 - 90 mph, and the waves are 18 - 27 feet tall. At breakfast this morning, a big cart that held dirty dishes started rolling across an open space in the dining room, with a waiter madly chasing after it. He caught it in the nick of time before it crashed right into a table of 4 Brits next to us. That was the highlight of breakfast. We worked out in the fitness center, with its lovely view of the front of the ship, where we rocked and rolled on the machines. An elliptical trainer had actually moved across the rug and banged into a stair stepper. A lady tried to move the elliptical machine so she could use it, but it was too heavy for her, so she waited for another machine.
The captain came on the intercom recently and said the weather was going to get better, we sure hope so! We are about 200 miles off the coast and a state or two south of the Virginia coast at this time.
Our ship is 1021 feet long and 127 feet wide at the widest point. It is 210 feet tall above the water line, only draws 29 feet and weighs 137,308 tons. When we were docked in San Juan, we were taller than all of the condo and apartment buildings near us.
We are going to dinner tonight in one of the restaurants, the Portfino, instead of the dining room. You just pay a cover charge and then the food is free. The food is fabulous, and different from the dining room, and so we will celebrate Valentine's Day there.
We are looking forward to getting off this rocking ship and getting back home!
